A Persian rug is knotted by hand in Iran, one knot at a time, often over many months of work. It is the most celebrated member of the wider oriental family — and if your rug comes from Turkey, the Caucasus or Central Asia instead, our oriental rug cleaning service gives it exactly the same level of care.

What makes these rugs precious also makes them fragile. Their traditional natural dyes can bleed the moment they meet the wrong product. Dense wool and delicate silk trap years of dust deep in the pile, far beyond the reach of a household vacuum. Supermarket shampoos, steam machines and industrial carpet plants are their worst enemies.

Dye testing

Every rug starts with a blotter test on hidden areas. We make sure the reds, blues and ivories will hold fast before the rug ever touches water.

Deep dusting

The rug is dusted front and back with pulsed air, releasing years of sand and grit that no household vacuum can reach.

Step 03 / 07

Wash trial

A gentle trial on a hidden corner tells us the right soap, water temperature and contact time for your particular rug.

Step 04 / 07

Hand washing

Full immersion in a bath matched to the fibres. Washed by hand with plant-based soap and soft brushes — no harsh chemicals, ever.

Step 05 / 07

Thorough rinsing

Successive rinses in clear water until every trace of soap is gone, with the colours checked at each pass.

Step 06 / 07

Flat drying

Dried flat on racks at room temperature, with controlled airflow — never forced, never rushed. Up to 14 days for silk.

Finishing & inspection

The pile is combed, the fringes tensioned, every detail checked. A photo report is sent before your rug travels home.
